Aimed at a wide variety of recording applications, PreSonus’ new 26x32-channel Quantum audio/Midi interface takes advantage of a high-speed Thunderbolt 2 bus and a direct-to-DAW signal path to achieve extremely low latency. It is equipped with high-resolution 24-bit, 192kHz converters giving 120dB of dynamic range, and recallable XMax microphone preamps. Up to four Quantum interfaces can be linked via Thunderbolt for a 96x96 I/O system.
Quantum offers two combo mic/instrument/line inputs and six combo mic/line inputs, each with a digitally controlled XMax preamp and +48V phantom power. There are also two quarter-inch TRS main outputs, the eight quarter-inch TRS line outputs, and two independent headphone outs with dedicated volume controls. With Adat Optical I/O and SPDIF stereo digital I/O, up to 18 additional digital inputs and outputs can be added for a total of 26 inputs and 32 outputs. BNC word clock I/O ensures Quantum and other digital audio devices operate in tight sync. Midi I/O is also provided.
Designed to be the central hub of a recording set-up, the Quantum offers two main and eight auxiliary balanced line-level outputs for monitor mixing. An onboard talkback mic can be routed to any mix, and any mix may be monitored from either of two headphone amps. Mute/Dim and Mono controls are also provided.
Launching the included PreSonus Studio One Artist DAW brings full preamp control functions into a recording environment. Most of the Quantum’s features can also be controlled in PreSonus’ free UC Surface control software for remote access of features with third-party recording software.
The Quantum interface is expected to ship in Q2 2017, at an anticipated MAP/street price of US$999.95.
