Yamaha has announced the DXS18 active subwoofer, complementing the DSR, DXR and DBR series of active, full-range loudspeakers.
The DXS18 builds on the design of the DXS12 and DXS15, and features improving cabinet construction, DSP processing, protection functions and crossover control. In addition it offers new features and higher power output suitable for larger applications. It is powered by a 1,020W class-D amplifier and uses an 18-inch woofer with 4-inch voice coil magnet, housed in a sturdy bandpass-type plywood enclosure. This combination enables it to deliver an impressive 136dB maximum SPL and extended response down to 32Hz, yet with exceptional clarity and minimal distortion.
It also features Yamaha's proprietary DSP technology, D-Xsub processing offering additional control of the low-frequency range via selectable Boost and Xtended LF modes, as well as a crossover selectable at 80Hz, 100Hz and 120Hz. The DXS18 also features a Cardioid Mode setting for systems with two or more DXS18s, effectively reducing the SPL of bass directed towards the stage, while increasing the bass levels directed at the intended audience.
The DXS18 features advanced protection circuits to ensure optimum reliability and extended equipment life, while the enclosure is coated with a durable Line-X finish. It is equipped with M20 and 35mm pole sockets, allowing for flexible set-up, with an optional wheel kit available for portability. Yamaha also offers optional speaker covers with a functional design that protect from unfavourable weather conditions during outdoor performances, warehouse storage and the rigors of the road travel.
