A 500 series version of the Aphex Aural Exciter and Big Bottom processors, the EX-BB 500 offers mono processing in the 500 rack format (API, Radial Engineering, A Designs, Empirical Labs Tonelux).
The EX-BB 500 offers discrete Tune, Harmonics and Mix controls, allowing increased spoken-word intelligibility and added punch and presence on instruments. It is a well-established mixdown processor as well as being able to optimise bit-rate-reduced recordings and other compressed audio files.
The Optical Big Bottom, meanwhile, offers and alternative to equalisation for adding low-frequency punch. Tune, Drive and Mix controls allow dynamic enhancment of low frequencies.
As well as voiceovers and mixing irock, pop, jazz and classical music recording, the Aural Exciter has found use in TV and film post-production, as well as in live sound systems in houses of worship, communications and public address systems.
