Amid a flurry of awards ceremonies that includes the Grammy and the UK's Brits, the winners of the 57th Motion Picture Sound Editors' Golden Reel (MPSE) Awards were announced on Sunday 20 February at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
Among the big winners of the awards – which recognise sound work in feature-film, television and other categories – were the topical The Social Network, sci-fi mindbender Inception and WWII mini-series The Pacific.

The 2011 MPSE Filmmaker Recipient is Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer, while the 2011 MPSE Career Achievement Recipient is the renowned sound designer and editor Walter Murch (pictured above with George Lucas), presented by veteran filmmaker George Lucas who commented: 'Sound is half of the experience of a motion picture – the sound editor should start working the same day the editor starts working.'
