Perched on top of Johannesburg’s prestigious Reef Hotel, Elevate is the city’s newest nightclub. Although a fairly compact venue with a maximum capacity of approximately 400, it required a processor able to deliver live DJ sets to five zones, including an external terrace area. It also needed to accommodate background music for occasional corporate events and product launches.
Enter leading local audio supplier and integrator Tadco, who set to work on a suitably capable and flexible design.
Evidence of the ongoing rejuvenation of South Africa’s largest city (by population), Elevate has to compete with other clubs with its sound system, as well as its other attractions. At least one element fell into place right away – the feature-set of Symetrix’s Jupiter fixed-architecture standalone DSP, which was supplied via the manufacturer’s local distributor iLED.
‘Nothing on offer today comes close to the power of the Symetrix DSP block,’ insists Tadco Marketing Manager Josh Oates, who praises the Jupiter’s ‘world-class reliability, intuitive interface and broadcast quality preamps’.
‘It’s reliable, easily deployable, and we’ve used it on so many projects lately. It’s a highly dependable tool in our armoury,’ agrees Tadco Technical Manager, Perry Elias.
The DSP’s ‘true plug-and-play’ nature allowed the Tadco team to focus on ‘creating great sound within the venue’ – a task that reuired a 16-box loudspeaker system featuring Nexo PS8s and LS500 subwoofers on the dancefloor, and Quest MS601s in other areas. Amplification comes from Quest QA3004s.
‘The great thing about this system – and the Symetrix element in particular – is that it allows for future expansion as the needs of the venue change,’ Elias concludes. ‘Processing doesn’t need to be rocket science, and Jupiter allows you to get great results straight out of the box.’
