One of the most sacred texts in the Buddhist religion, the story of the Mahajanaka has been told in many different ways over the centuries, but for a spectacular recent live production in Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej commissioned an interpretation that would be readily intelligible to a contemporary audience – Mahajanaka the Phenomenon Live Show.
The resulting multimedia spectacular marked His Majesty’s 87th birthday at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre besides the Lake of Benjakiti Park in front of 200,000 people.
Using a variety of A/V equipment, Mahajanaka the Phenomenon Live Show called on the expertise of Mr Team Productions and Fuzion Far East, and made use of six core audio brands, with Symetrix processing providing the link between DiGiCo digital mixing consoles, a Nexo loudspeaker system, Camco amplifiers, Sennheiser in-ear monitors and wireless miccs, and Genelec monitor loudspeakers. A Symetrix SymNet Radius 12x8 open architecture Dante-scalable DSP and single SymNet xOut 12 expander handled the processing throughout each performance of the 75-minute show.
For Mr Team Productions, Pok Sutat Kohkiat explains that the company has been using Symetrix products consistently since 2001 and that the SymNet Radius DSP – would meet the demands of the production: ‘The key features of SymNet Radius 12x8 that have particularly impressed me are its scalability, networking capability, vast choice of modules, and its excellent sound quality,’ he explains. ‘Once again, our customers loved the performance that this provided.’
Public reaction was reportedly enthusiastic to a production that delivered on all levels – including a jazz set featuring Larry Carlton, vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur and guitarist/singer John Pizzarelli. For this performance, a separate FOH and monitoring system featuring two DiGiCo SD8 consoles and 24 Nexo PS 15 speakers was drafted in before the stage was reset for Mahajanaka the Phenomenon Live Show.
