The Cirkus Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, has become the first venue to install Allen & Heath’s new dLive digital mixing system.
Established as a working circus during the 19th century, the current incarnation of Cirkus is one of Stockholm’s most prominent entertainment venues, hosting concerts, conferences, TV recordings and musical shows – including visiting Broadway shows and, currently, the Benny Andersson/Bjorn Ulvaeus’ musical, Kristina.
The venue recently expanded with the opening of a new building, the Skandia Scenen theatre – requiring all-new equipment. The dLive system was chosen because of its high bus capacity, multiple networking options, and 96kHz sampling.
‘dLive has incredible features and operational capacity, which are ideal for use in a busy theatre,’ explains Cirkus’ sound engineer, Anders Nyberg. ‘Stand-out features of the system for me are the 64 buses, the 96k processing, and the five network card slots, which will be magnificently powerful. Also, I have used iLive many times in recent years, so I know the new dLive system will be trustworthy. Last but not least, the guys that develop A&H products really listen to the thoughts and wishes of guys like me so dLive’s features are spot on.’
Nyberg selected the flagship model, the S7000 Control Surface with DM64 MixRack. The first production to use the new system is Partaj, a Swedish TV programme that has been adapted into a stage show.
‘Now that we have really started to use dLive, I think it sounds absolutely great,’ Nyberg says. ‘The 96k sampling rate is phenomenal, and the two screens on the surface provide a fantastic overview of what’s going on.’
