Milan-based producer Ugo Poddighe has installed a Unity Audio Boulder/Babe (Boulder Active Bass Extender) main monitoring system in his Up Studios facility in Milan.
Poddighe had been searching for a monitor system accurate enough for his projects for more than two years: ‘What’s remarkable about these speakers is their transparency,’ he says. ‘Despite being a four-way system you are completely unaware of crossover points and phase issues are non-existent. The transient response is the fastest I’ve heard which makes compressing and balancing percussion instruments a child’s game.’
Poddighe has worked with the likes of Victor Daniel, Joaquin Yglesias and Alberto Radius: ‘I have found that I have been able to work and not feel the slightest fatigued when using the speakers’ he reports. ‘They also have awesome translation. I remixed a track – previously mixed on my old speakers – for a client from scratch and they chose that mix.’
Babe is a dedicated loudspeaker capable of delivering a accurate performance for tracking, mixing and critical mastering. ‘Our development team has worked exceptionally hard to deliver a system to challenge the performance and price of established manufacturers, the number of high-end facilities investing in our system is a testament to the enormous team effort,’ says Unity Audio Head of Sales & Marketing, Paul O’Farrell.
Babe monitors come as a modular system, with configuration options to suit two-channel, LCR and surround sound configurations for critical listening applications. Babe retains the same sealed cabinet approach used throughout the Unity Audio range, loading it with a single 12-inch/300mm driver with a 5-inch/130mm Hexatech external voice coil wound with a hexagonal-shaped aluminium coil wire.
