Austria’s Salzburger Festspiele recently invested in a multi-surface dLive system for the spectacular performance of the seminal medieval morality play Jedermann, which has been stage every year since 1923 at Salzburg’s Domplatz (Cathedral Square).

Austria’s Salzburger FestspieleWith almost 700 performances in just under a century, the play is a unique and central element of the festival’s identity and takes place throughout the summer. This year, the organisers acquired an Allen & Heath dLive mixing system through supplier, ATEC Pro Audio, especially for the performance. Further dLive systems are now planned for six other locations.

Head of the Sound Engineering and Acoustics for the Salzburger Festspielfonds, Dr Edwin Pfanzagl-Cardone had considered alternative digital mixing systems prior to the purchase: Having heard only good things about Allen & Heath from colleagues and after examining in detail a number of competitor systems, to us it seemed only logical to go for a dLive system,’ he explains.

The set-up comprises a three-way multi-surface configuration, with two dLive S5000s for FOH, operated by FOH engineers Reinhold Schinwald and Florian Kindlinger, and an additional dLive C1500 on monitors, operated by Heinz Bauer. All three are connected to a single DM64 MixRack. Also included in the system is an IP8 controller, a DX32 Expander, and SuperMADI, gigaACE and Dante cards for audio distribution.

‘We were looking for a dual-operator solution with the option to use other remote controls of different sizes throughout the venue and the dLive digital mixing system offers just that,’ Pfanzagl-Cardone concludes.
