Mixing traditional and modern Christian influences, the Yeon Moo Dae Church is located within a Korean Army training centre. Ten years in construction it relied on donations from nearly 10,000 individuals, more than 600 Christian community churches and a further 600 church-related organisations.
With its congregation reaching 6,000, the church recently completed a new sanctuary and has equipped it with a Clair Brothers sound system, having researching other large sanctuaries and listening to their sound systems.
Among the locations the church committee visited, the Joyful Church Training Center has the Clair Brothers CAT215 loudspeaker system installed. Following discussion over the best combination of loudspeakers with local consultants from Clair Brothers, the C15 was chosen as optimum for the sanctuary’s 66m width and 55m depth – and 15m-high ceiling.
Sixteen C15s have been installed, along with 12 iS218 subs, 40 kiTCurve12s for stage fill, outer fills and delays, eight 1AM+ and two 1.5AMs as stage monitors. The mixing console they serve is a Solid State Logic L200.
‘The kiTCurves were selected alongside the C15 main system because of their excellent mixture of sound,’ says JJ Song, Head of Korean Business Development at Clair Brothers. ‘This 12-inch class of speaker delivers plenty of lows and unbelievable clarity for voice presence and music. The result here sounds wonderful.’
The loudspeaker cluster was sited so as not impede the video screen during services. ‘The only minor challenge was that we weren’t able to put the iS218 subs on the ground,’ Song says. ‘As expected, the sub hang worked out quite well.’
In addition to the sermons from the pastor, the Brothers system serves lively music and uplifting gospel performances, along with important live events for the army trainees. ‘Everything is working great,’ reports church technical director, Gyeong Tae Kim. ‘The C15s and the iS218 flown subs are not only powerful but also deliver even coverage with amazingly high resolution.’
‘It makes me very happy when I see our congregation is happy,’ adds Army Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Soon Kyu Kim. ‘Now I know they can hear me very well.’
He acknowledges Fone Sound engineer/project manager Sun Kyung Kim at the official Korea Clair Brothers dealer, and product specialist/application engineer Young Yoon from Clair Brothers Korea for their part in the installation: ‘The professionalism and expertise on this installation was superb. I give great thanks to both of them for their hard work from day one of the project. Clair Brothers is clearly the right choice for us.’
