Responding to the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in Europe, Messe Frankfurt has postponed the ProLight & Sound 2020 trade fair originally planned to take place between 31 March and 3 April.
The new dates for the show are 26-29 May.
‘The health of exhibitors, visitors, contractors and employees has top priority for Messe Frankfurt,’ the organiser said in a statement. ‘The ongoing spread of Covid-19 in Europe called for a reassessment of the situation in close cooperation with the public-health authorities in Frankfurt who require that steps be taken to prevent event participants from high-risk regions coming to Frankfurt and visiting the fair when ill.
‘Given that these participants could also be infected by Covid-19, it is necessary to conduct a health check to prevent the infection spreading even further. This is an important part of the infectiological risk assessment. Messe Frankfurt is not able to implement such measures. Additional factors behind the decision include the growing number of travel restrictions, which will make it difficult for many potential visitors and exhibitors to get to Frankfurt.
Following the announcement of the postponement, Yamaha and Nexo have chosen not to exhibit during the show’s revised dates. In a joint statement, Yamaha Music Europe’s Pro Audio & AV Group Senior Director Nils-Peter Keller and Nexo CEO Jean Mullor said: ‘Both Yamaha and Nexo fully understand the decision by Messe Frankfurt to postpone this year’s ProLight & Sound show. The spread of Covid-19 is a complex, challenging and evolving situation and our primary consideration is for the welfare of both show visitors and event staff.
‘As two of the leading brands in the professional audio industry, many staff and customers of both companies will be gearing up for the busy outdoor festival season during the show’s revised dates at the end of May. Therefore, it is with regret that we have now decided not to exhibit at ProLight & Sound 2020.
‘Both Yamaha and Nexo are naturally very disappointed that we will not be present at the show this year and we look forward to an opportunity to return in 2021.’
