UK A/V integrator Old Barn Audio (OBA) has added a new fitness centre to its count of Martin Audio CDD series loudspeaker installations – the Natural Fit Gym in Tunbridge Wells, run by Steven Kelly and Shaun Harris.
The CDD series has been a regular part of OBA’s work since its release in 2015 and, over the intervening years, the company has used Martin Audio’s coaxial differential dispersion technology in numerous venues across a variety of market sectors.
It was Kelly who contacted OBA: ‘This is the first of what will be a series of upmarket gyms, and they wanted the best,’ says OBA Director, Phil Clark. ‘We told them straight away that they needed Martin Audio.
‘We install CDD because they are priced well, they sound phenomenal and they are esoteric in their construction.’
The client was reassured not only by this, but the fact that OBA is based in the same Kent spa town. As well as performance, a further requirement was that the loudspeakers would be discreet – directing OBA to the ultra-compact CDD5. ‘Even though the CDD5 is the smallest in the CDD range they give great power, clarity and dispersion,’ Clark says. ‘It’s a high-end solution, and being black, set against a black ceiling the sound source is virtually invisible.’
The gym includes a sunken swimming pool and is divided into four zones for sound distribution: Café, Main gym, Changing rooms and Members area. All four playback devices are individually controlled by the gym instructors’ iPhones and iPads, with bespoke music for many of the classes, played out at BGM levels.
‘We use CDD for pretty much everything, often linked to Martin Audio’s SX subs,’ he adds. ‘You can’t really ask for anything more. Steven Kelly was so impressed with his sound system that he will be running with Martin Audio again at their second venue, which will be in Hove.’
