Founded in 1929, the Kharkov Philharmonic Society is one of the oldest and best recognised organisations in Ukraine. The sceiety promotes classical, contemporary and folk music –a significant contribution to culture in Ukraine – and recently revamped the sound systems serving its Organ Hall and Concert Hall. Indigo Music, official distributor of DAS Audio in Ukraine, was called in to handle the installation.
The venues are owned by the Academic Symphony Orchestra – a body of more than 100 of the country’s prestigious musicians, most of whom have won awards in national and international competitions.
Twelve Aero-20A line array systems, together with six UX-218A for low-frequency support, were installed in the Concert Hall. A single DASNet Rack-26 manages signal and power distribution, making system control and monitoring possible through DASnet.
The Indigo Music team also installed a line array system featuring a total of 22 Event-210A line array systems on the spectacular stage of the Organ Hall, which were supplement by four Event-218A subwoofers to boost the low frequencies. The system was rounded out with Event-M210A stage monitors and two DAS, DSP-2040 digital signal processors.
‘The advantages of using the Aero-20A systems are obvious, thanks to the powerful DSP of each Aero system, which can have a FIR filter per box and thus adapt to the needs of each show, offering spectacular uniformity in frequency response and correcting the sound directivity exclusively to the audience,’ a spokesperson says. ‘The colour customisation of the line array meant we could reduce the visual impact of the systems on the stage. It’s not always necessary, but in this case, where the visual design of the stage plays a main role, the result is superb.’
