UK broadcast specialist Glensound has announced a partnership with ALC NetworX to develop Ravenna-enabled versions of its audio monitoring and networking products concurrently with RME’s addition of Digiface Ravenna to the Digiface series of interfaces for USB, AVB and Dante applications.
The Ravenna open-technology standard supports real-time transport of audio and other media data in IP-based network environments and is fully compatible with AES67 & SMPTE ST 2110. It will now be supported by Glensound’s Vittoria network bridge; Bella 32 audio monitor; Bella 22 confidence monitor, mixer and level control; and the Dark1616 and Dark88 breakout boxes.
‘With full AES67 and ST2110-30 compatibility, our new Ravenna-enabled units offer our customers extended options as part of our existing network audio solutions,’ says Glensound MD, Marc Wilson. ‘Adding support for Ravenna to key products ensures our customers benefit from seamless operation in IP environments and we are proud to be part of the partner community.’
‘I am delighted to see Glensound joining the Ravenna partner community,’ says ALC NetworX’s Andreas Hildebrand. ‘The introduction of Ravenna-enabled versions of the Vitorria, Bella and Dark products, brings IP networking support to a range of high-quality monitoring and control and breakout boxes.’
RME’s first Ravenna-enabled product, the Digiface Ravenna, is a mobile means of connecting Ravenna networks to Windows or Mac computers. It allows bi-directional transmission of up to 128 audio channels between Ravenna and a connected computer via a single USB 3.0 connection. It also features a Madi interface and includes TotalMix FX, which allows you to freely route and mix all I/O channels, far exceeding simple patchbay-style routing.
‘It was always our wish to do a project together with DirectOut, whose founder Stephan Flock was part of the RME core team when it all started,’ says RME co-founder, Matthias Carstens. ‘So, the question is more like – what took us so long? Consequently, we decided to join the Ravenna community and here we are, with a device that brings superior Ravenna networking capabilities to desktop computers, based on the strengths of RME and DirectOut – computer interface design/drivers and Ravenna expertise. Clearly the best of both worlds.’
‘It’s pleasing to see that RME has already announced itsfirst product, a Ravenna-enabled version of the powerful Digiface interface series, bringing rock-solid Ravenna networking performance to PC and Mac computers,’ Hildebrand says. ‘The company’s cooperation with DirectOut shows the true strength of the Ravenna partner community and continues to prove the success of the open technology approach of Ravenna.’
