Created by the same team as the Boomtown Fair Festival, Wake The Tiger Amazement Park is an immersive art experience located in Bristol offering 27 creative environments including artwork, installations, narrative, soundscape and secret passageways. Visitors are transported to Meridia, a world not unlike our own, where they discover an old abandoned factory, a time capsule of messages, theories and wild experiments.

Technical production company AF Live took on the audio side of project, designing a bespoke sound system that makes extensive use of Genelec Smart IP loudspeakers. ‘AF Live has managed Boomtown Fair’s technical production for over a decade, so when we were approached by Wake The Tiger in Spring 2022, we were already onboard to help create a sound system that would bring the new interactive Amazement Park to life,’ says founder and Director of AF Live, Paul Rose.

Greg Chapter, AF Live lead designer for the project, looked into many different products on the market to implement this complex installation and, after testing various products on demo, determined that Genelec PoE products were the best option.

‘The Dante system allowed us to effectively realise the sound design over the 27 zones of the exhibit, allowing the freedom and control needed to engage the listener in an immersive experience. The onboard DSP processing available on the Genelec Smart IP series loudspeakers was extremely useful for Wake The Tiger’s complex and unique audio environment. We identified the Genelec Smart IP series as a market leader, for both its quality of sound and ease of use. The system has exceeded expectations, working flawlessly since the opening of the venue.’

Genelec 4430A and the more compact 4420A were used across the park, providing combine high sound quality with single cable installation. Their Smart IP technology supports scalable power, configuration, supervision and calibration via Cat cable.

Thanks to AF Live, and the Genelec technology supplied by Audiologic, our Amazement Park is an all-around interactive experience with bespoke, mixed-reality soundscapes. The system continues to perform exceptionally, with loudspeakers that blend into the surroundings to not take away from the installations.’
