Focal has announced the first all-Focal Dolby Atmos mix room in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the famed Studio DMI HQ.

Studio DMI's new all-Focal Dolby Atmos mix roomThe new 7.1.4 Studio D design features three of Focal’s flagship Trio11 Be pro monitors for LCR, and eight of the company’s new Solo6 ST6 for surrounds and height. Two Focal Sub12 subwoofers handle LFE and bass management.

‘A Focal system is great because it is a system that I trust and am comfortable with,’ says Studio DMI founder and renowned mixing and mastering engineer, Luca Pretolesi. ‘It is an extension of my ears, allowing me to achieve a level of accuracy and precision in my sound stage that is unparalleled.’

Pretolesi recently mixed Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind album at Studio DMI on the Focal Trio11 monitors, while engineer Robert Guzman mixed and mastered the new Skrillex album Quest For Fire in Dolby Atmos in Studio D.

‘A Focal system with Dolby Atmos is a more dynamic, engaging and immersive listening experience,’ Pretolesi says. ‘It is high-quality and makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action.’

The studio was completed in the Spring of 2022, with room design was by Haverstick Designs and technical systems design by Pretolesi and Focal’s Joshua Estock. The new studio includes custom acoustic treatments by Vicoustic and an Avid Pro Tools MTRX Studio System. Studio DMI’s 4,000sq-ft complex also houses three other Focal-based studios.

‘We’re proud to play a small part in Studio DMI’s new Dolby Atmos room – it sets a new standard for immersive audio in Las Vegas,’ says Josh Estock, Focal’s North American Pro Director. ‘The team at Studio DMI needed the system to extend low, without being sluggish and slow, while retaining all the detail and dynamics they expect from Focal monitors. They mix and master top-tier work, so the new system had to perform.

‘Thanks to a fantastic sounding room by Haverstick Designs, exacting calibration by Dolby’s Jonathan Lessner, and our flagship Focal monitors, the room really exceeded expectations. If you’re in Las Vegas, you need to hear this room. It will knock your socks off in more ways than one.’

Having worked with Focal monitors for more than ten years, the nine-time Grammy nominated Pretolesi says that he felt right at home in the immersive set-up: ‘Focal allows me to create a personalised audio environment that adapts to my specific needs and preferences,’ he says. ‘It’s a system that I can rely on to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.’
