Røde Soundbooth is a new demonstration application enabling a selection of Røde microphones to be auditioned, using professionally recording of a range of instruments.
‘More than just a collection of samples, the Røde Soundbooth is an innovative and user-friendly workstation that runs both in an internet browser on computers, and natively on the Apple iPad using the free Røde Soundbooth app,’ the company syas.
The program allows users to hear how a particular microphone might sound on a particular instrument, and also to ‘AB’ compare how different Røde microphones sound on the same instrument. As many of the instruments and microphone combinations are also recorded at multiple proximities, visitors can use Soundbooth to hear the subtle nuances of microphone placement.
Instruments have been recorded by Grammy-nominated producer and engineer John Merchant (Bee Gees, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand) using some of Nashville’s finest session musicians at world-class facilities including Red Door Studio (Nashville), The Steinway Gallery (Nashville) and Middle Tennessee State University.
Over the course of several weeks, close to 400 individual tracks were recorded specifically for the Røde Soundbooth, using recording techniques specially devised to allow critical comparison between microphones. ‘It’s always been logistically difficult for all but the very largest MI retailers to offer a fully featured microphone demonstration environment.’ says Damien Wilson, Røde Global Sales & Marketing Director. ‘Using the Røde Soundbooth users can professionally audition many Røde microphones from the comfort of their studio, their home, or even their favourite cafe.
‘Not only does this empower musicians, engineers and artists, but Røde will be placing Soundbooth listening stations in select retail stores worldwide to provide Røde’s flagship retailers with comprehensive demonstration kiosks.’
The original uncompressed 44.1kHz 24-bit Pro Tools session and source files are also available to download from the Røde website.
