The small German village of Worpswede has enjoyed a lively artistic community since the end of the 19th century, and was made famous by the painters and poets who moved to the area. Today, it remains a centre artistic and literary events, and the ballroom built in 1870 is still an important venue.
Known as Music Hall since 1993, the ballroom holds 550 people, and stages concerts worthy of major cities – John Mayall, Al di Meola, Manfred Man, Robert Cray, Steve Lukather, Mothers Finest, Marla Glen, Tina Dico, and Rebecca Bakken have all performed here.
The sound system of the Music Hall is managed by Joerg Mohr and Raymond Hassfeld. Among other experiences Mohr has toured with funk-metal band Living Colour as FOH engineer for years. He has also mixed the sound on solo projects for Will Calhoun, Doug Wimbish and Vernon Reid.
‘When we had to decide which amplifiers were best suited to replace our old gear, we started looking for great sounding amps,’ he says. ‘But also for something that was going to be technically future-proof. For that reason we needed something with internal DSP functionality, as well as remote control and monitoring capabilities. Powersoft amps fitted the bill perfectly.
‘We were simply amazed by the output these guys can fit into a singlew rack space. And this is not only referring to the K3s that we use for the FOH PA, but also for the M50Qs that are driving the floor monitors. Eight monitor channels at a maximum power of 1.250W in 2U only. How cool is that?
‘The quality, functionality and green-conscious design of Powersoft products were only part of the story,’ he adds. ‘The great support from the guys at Trius Vertrieb in Ibbenbueren really completed the positive experience. In the not-so-distant future we plan to replace the amplifiers for close fills and delays with Powersoft units too. We will end up with one amplifier rack left instead of the three we had before.’
