The new IDA8 networked public address-voice alarm system from PA/VA specialist Ateis will be at the hub of forthcoming projects in the UK rail sector, including Kings Cross St Pancreas, Reading Station and Transport for London’s new Paddington underground station. The placements have been made by Fourway Communications, a rail industry specialist handling project management, design, supply, installation, commissioning and testing.
‘The selection of a manufacturer of a safety critical system of this nature requires careful consideration,’ says Fourway Communications Senior Design Manager, Richard Osborne. ‘In our evaluation process, the Ateis IDA8 system was able to meet all the criteria of a fully compliant, robust, compact and easily maintainable system, whilst also providing a cost effective solution.’
The projects build on Ateis’ record of work in the rail sector, including installation on the TGV railway line from Paris to Marseille, the Haupbahnhof station in Zurich and the underground rail network in Nurenburg.
After years of development, the IDA8 offers a VA system that is infinitely configurable, easy to install and fully compliant. A ‘one-box’ solution, it is suited to a host of ‘safety critical’ environments.
It runs open DSP software and boasts IP connectivity, including an IP microphone. It also uses remote diagnostics for easy configuration and systems operation. It’s substantial in-built voice announcement store supports four hours of recording capacity, which can be accessed remotely through third-party interfaces. Its debut installation was at Silverstone’s F1 race circuit, where it serves both visitors and communications in the pit.
‘The IDA8 is a unique product and sets a precedent for PA/VA solutions,’ says Ateis UK Managing Director, Neil Voce. ‘It’s full potential has not been explored fully and we hope to highlight many of its innovative features at Paddington’s new underground station.’
Offering support at every level of any installation, Ateis provides custom training and systems back up as well as ensuring that the VA system is supplied rack mounted, configured and installed to the highest standards by Fusion plc.
