Close to Copenhagen, the Broendby Hallen Arena is home to the Danish capital’s handball team, AG Kobenhavn. With seating for around 5,000, the venue recently overhauled its sound system making extensive use of DAS Audio systems.
Danish firm ProShop Europe was contracted to install the sound system, calling on Project Manager Thomas Duch and DAS Audio Sound Projects engineer Eva Argandoña for both pre-configuration and set-up of the system. Given the characteristics of the arena, with its uneven stands and other architectural challenges, the studies and simulations carried out by Argandoña led ProShop Europe to install DAS’s Aero, Variant and BiDriver series, according to the needs of the different parts of the arena.
Specifically, two linear formations of six self-powered DAS Aero 12A line array systems each have been used to cover the highest stands with the most seating. The upper section of this stand, with a roof positioned on six columns, posed significant acoustic challenges. To avoid the acoustic shadow created by these columns, a DAS Variant 112A system was set up on top of each column to take care of the acoustics of the listening area behind these unique roof supports.
Two linear formations of four self-powered DAS Aero 12A line array systems were installed to cover the opposite stand. A linear formation of five Aero 12A systems in each was enough to cover the narrow stands higher up behind the goals.
It was crucial that the sound system cover the court: four DAS BiDriver long-throw systems were installed in a zenithal position on the ceiling of the arena to get the job done. During matches, these systems ensure delivery of messages given to participants. A DAS SLA-3400 amplifier was selected to supply the corresponding amplification of the signal to these passive systems.
The finishing touch is a DAS DSP-4080 processor, which manages the six clusters of Aero systems that cover all stands and the BiDriver systems positioned on the floor, while the Variant systems positioned on the columns of the main stand are managed using a DAS DSP-2060A processor. All told, these top-of-the-line DAS products provide high-quality sound reinforcement for the Broendby Halle Arena and its thousands of avid handball fans.
