A series of two-day, weekend workshops are planned for Rooksmere Studios in the UK (Northampton), to ‘provide opportunities for educators and practitioners, under the guidance of experienced professionals, to immerse themselves in the art of creative recording and discover new and innovative recording techniques’.
Tagged ‘Nowt So Strange As Folk’, the first workshop will look at techniques for recording more unusual instruments, particularly those associated with folk music. It will be led by Engineer/Producer Tony Platt (AC/DC, Bob Marley, Buddy Guy) and Mark Hutchinson, who has a long association with folk music.
Each subsequent workshop will explore a different topic, and the workshops will be participatory and so delegates will determine the path taken or methods explored. The workshop leader will be experienced in the issues to be explored but will be as inquisitive as the delegates.
The studios plan to run the first workshop twice, on 9-10 October and again on 16-17 November. The cost will be £300 and includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Saturday evening will provide an opportunity for discussion and debate ‘over a glass or two’. The number of delegates will be restricted to eight – please register your interest stating your preferred date.
Future topics are planned to include: ‘Experiments With Multi Microphone Techniques’, ‘The Hard Facts About Software – Comparing Hardware & Software Outboard Devices’ and ‘The A-to-Z of A-to-D’.
