South Africa’s first DiGiCo SD Ten mixing console has been placed with rental company MGG Productions and was quickly put to use at FOH on the Metro FM Awards, operated by Adriaan van der Walt, with MGG’s Fanie Pieterse as system tech. The console was connected to an SD-Rack via a fibre-optic link with a DiGiCo Little Blue Box used to connect to a D-Rack, which linked to the amplifiers.
The SD Ten was also at FOH at the Discovery Leadership Awards, again manned by Van der Walt with Pieterse as system tech. The SD-Rack was used for stage inputs and output distribution to the amplifiers and a Little Blue Box was used to connect a D-Rack for additional local inputs.
Supplied by DiGiCo’s South Africa distributor Tadco and joining a DiGiCo SD11 in MGG’s inventory, Mark Gaylard has found the desk to be ‘a very cool piece of kit,’ and that both his staff and freelance engineers want to work with. ‘I’ve always been a fan of DiGiCo,’ says freelance sound engineer and system tech Jaco Beukes. ‘The design, layout and flexibilty allow me to rock up at a show and quickly get it going.’
‘The main thing about the desk is its versatility,’ says Van der Walt. ‘You can configure many inputs with many outputs in a small footprint. It is reliable, sounds great and is easy to use. Accessing any aspect of the console is peanuts.’
