Brouwerij De KoninckFamed for its Bolleke beer, the Brouwerij De Koninck (Antwerp City Brewery) is one of Antwerp’s enduring attractions. In addition to brewing the classic Belgian ale, the brewery has begun to tell its story through a new museum. Local audio specialist Foundation for Audiovisual Commerce & Engineering (Face) was called in to match great acoustics to a great beer.

Part of the brief was to manage the acoustics without compromising the historic architecture. ‘Because the museum is situated in an old building and the acoustics where not optimised, it was very hard to listen to the story of that particular part’, explains Face Project Division Manager, Steven Kemland. ‘When going through a museum, you want the sound to be clear and without noise of the next part of the story.’

‘While observing the different rooms, it was clear that an advanced set of acoustic panels was required. The panels of Primacoustic are especially made for rooms where excellent acoustic sound is needed. The panels are available in different colours, so it was possible to choose a colour that blends with the walls and ceilings.

‘The museum comprises a series of rooms of different shapes and with different furniture. Primacoustic’s Broadway Panels are made in various dimensions and are suited to walls and ceilings, so we could use the same style of panels in all rooms.’

With a minimum use of wall and ceiling panels, the acoustics were tamed, allowing the Bolleke story to be told. ‘We are very pleased with the panels,’ reports Anik Van Bellegem of Brouwerij De Koninck. ‘Taking the tour and telling people about our beloved beers is now pleasant to listen to.’
