Watson Wu has been creating audio content for film, TV, ads and video games since 2001. Among the titles that he and his team have worked on are Assassin’s Creed, Transformers, Madden and the Need for Speed franchise. His film and TV credits include 71’ (the film), Daniel Craig’s A&E Biography, and work with Lexus, Dodge Ram, the NBA and NHL.

Watson WuIn order to consistently deliver audio to his working standards, Wu’s location rig is based around Sound Devices recording and mixing, with microphones from Sennheiser and DPA.

For two of Wu’s recent projects, Avalanche Studios’ AAA video game Just Cause 3 and EA’s Need for Speed 2015, he used Sound Devices’ 788T and 744T portable field recorders and 442 mixer, and Sennheiser MKH-418S shotgun stereo mics to capture exterior sounds and DPA 4061s for interiors –chosen for physical resilience and ability to handle high SPLs.

For Need for Speed 2015, Wu recorded a modified Scion FR-S high-performance sports car using Sound Devices’ 744T for extperior audio while simultaneously recording interior audio with Sound Devices’ 788T. This set-up enabled him to simultaneously capture internal and external sounds. He also used two Sound Devices 442 mixers, which he attached to the 788T to handle excessively loud sounds through the 442’s built-in analogue limiters.

In all, Wu recorded nine tracks at a time (seven onboard and two channels of stereo) for the game.
