Forthcoming support for Dolby Atmos by Nuage DAW/controller systems promises ‘a whole new level of realism to audio produced on the system’, according to Yamaha.
Adding a height dimension to the two-dimensional envelope of surround sound, Dolby a Atmos treats soun sources as individual entities that are placed and moved in a three-dimensional space. Atmos also has musical applications, and with cinemas, home systems and portable devices increasingly capable of implementing Atmos sound, Yamaha is confident that ‘demand for production is only going to increase’.
Steinberg, working in conjunction with Dolby Laboratories, is collaborating with Yamaha to realise the forthcoming support for Atmos by Nuage, further enhancing its appeal to postproduction facilities, games producers and recording studios.
Advance demonstrations of the Atmos implementation are taking place a Pro Light & Sound in Frankfurt.
