In a move that brings new engineering talent as well as a portfolio of communications solutions and Dante capabilities, Riedel Communications has acquired Delec Audio & Videotechnik and ASL Intercom.

Thomas Riedel and Eric de BruynSince its establishment in 1988, Delec has become a supplier of digital intercom and communication systems to broadcasters worldwide for both fixed installation and outside broadcast applications. The Delec products – most notably the oratis intercom systems, unito Dante audio networking interfaces and digital PA systems – are suited to use in stage-management and comms at large venues for live entertainment productions.

With its acquisition of ASL Intercom, Riedel Communications has also expanded its live entertainment and broadcast production portfolio.

Headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands, ASL Intercom was established in 1985 by current MD, Eric de Bruyn. The company offers rugged, reliable, flexible, and high-quality digital and analog intercom systems for event production, broadcast, and related applications. ASL Intercom’s impressive slate of technology deployments includes markets such as live sound, theatre, fixed installations, and broadcast.

ASL Intercom products are noted for voice intelligibility, dependable operation and user interfaces suited to fast-paced production. The company’s flagship ASL Flexus intercom system allows Dante/AES67/AVB and Ravenna to operate within a single system.

‘Delec has long been known for its visionary ideas and strong technology, and the company’s products complement and augment the Riedel portfolio in a way that will bring even greater versatility to our customers,’ says Riedel Communications MD, Thomas Riedel. ‘The entire Delec team will become part of the Riedel family, and this is exciting news not only in terms of our ongoing development of high-end solutions, but also for our growing customer base – including current Delec customers. Together, we’re better positioned than ever to provide forward-looking solutions that address current and future communications requirements, and we are committed to providing existing Delec customers the great service Riedel is known for.’

‘ASL Intercom has a strong portfolio in digital partyline technology, and the company’s products adapt readily to a wide variety of applications, both small and large,’ he continues. ‘Intercom applications remain a core element of our business, and we are confident that we’ll quickly be able to leverage the complementary technologies of ASL Intercom to serve an even broader array of customers that can benefit from exceptional communications systems.’

Given the strong reputation of ASL Intercom and its high-quality, European-built products, Riedel Communications will maintain the ASL Intercom brand identity going forward, and de Bruyn will stay on in his current role.

‘Riedel Communications is dedicated to quality, innovation, and service, and we are confident that ASL Intercom’s technology and customers will be in good hands,’ de Bruyn says. ‘The joining of our companies presents exciting opportunities for everyone involved.’
