Blackmagic Design has acquired fellow Australian company Fairlight, bringing Fairlight’s broadcast, film and television postproduction technology, and 3D audio mixing and finishing products into the video specialist’s portfolio.
Having announced that ‘the potential for Fairlight’s professional audio technologies is much larger than can be achieved under the current ownership’, Fairlight had placed itself in the acquision market earlier in 2016. ‘Fairlight creates the world’s most powerful digital audio software and hardware for video production,’ says Blackmagic Design CEO, Grant Petty. ‘The exciting part about this acquisition is that it will add incredibly high end professional audio technology to Blackmagic Design’s amazing video products. We look forward to working with the Fairlight team to build even more exciting new products for our customers.’
Fairlight’s catalogue includes audio software and hardware tools for postproduction, including mixing of 5.1, DTS MDA, Dolby Atmos and NHK 22.2 audio replay formats. The purchase of Fairlight extends Blackmagic’s involvement in motion picture postproduction, from image capture to final delivery.
