The rise of private saunas and the reciprocal decline of public saunas has alarmed some Finns. In response, Löyly brings a new public sauna and restaurant to the seafront in an area that is popular with both Finns and tourists, and makes a striking architectural statement.
Designed by Avanto Architects, Löyly is built primarily from heat-treated wood and features an outside terrace rising up on its roof to give exceptional views of the sea. Danley Sound Labs fully-weatherised OS-80 loudspeakers and a Danley TH-118 subwoofer give the terrace a sound system worthy of its architecture.
Danley Sound Labs’ European master distributor assisted with the Danley product specification and installation. ‘The architectural value of the entire Löyly complex made every decision very deliberate,’ says sound systems specialist, Marko Lönngren. ‘Everyone involved expected high-fidelity sound and an aesthetic that would blend seamlessly with the stunning architecture. There were many architects and designers who had to sign off on every decision.’
Lönngren recommended the Danley Sound Labs OS-80 loudspeakers, which are fully weatherised and ready to stand up to Helsinki’s often-brutal winter weather. The OS-80s use acoustician Tom Danley’s Synergy Horn technology to deliver phase-coherent audio that is balanced and non-fatiguing. The full-range OS-80s are supported by a Danley TH-118 subwoofer, which uses Tom Danley’s Tapped Horn technology. A four-channel Danley DNA 5k4c amplifier with onboard DSP provides a conditioned power supply to the OS-80s and TH-118.
