Germany’s MWA Sound has chosen Yamaha’s Nuage control and mixing, and Steinberg’s Nuendo software for its postproduction operations.
Located in Soltau, midway between the cities of Hamburg and Hannover, MWA Sound was founded by studio recording veteran Michael Andreas in 2010. Offering sound-to-picture services including film sound, postproduction, sound design and dubbing, the company is also active in the live audio market. MWA has worked on a wide range of projects including, in cinema and DVD, and is MWA is a long-standing user of Nuendo and Yamaha mixing consoles in its live business. The two technologies have come together in MWA’s latest investment, a Nuage postproduction system.
‘We have been using Nuendo since v3 in 2005,’ Andreas says. ‘It’s a very flexible tool and we like the fact that its ongoing development has always focused on including new and more efficient workflows, such as those for ADR. The technical support is also excellent, with a very personal touch.’
Seamless integration between hardware and software is a key factor in maintaining a fast, efficient workflow in sound-to-picture work. Comprising a Nuage Master and Nuage Fader unit, adding the system has helped Andreas and fellow sound designer Bernd Schaumburg to make the most of Nuendo, with the control surface allowing them to concentrate exclusively on their work, not the technology.
‘Thanks to our long-term success with Nuendo, investing in a Nuage system was an obvious next step to help maximise our efficiency,’ Andreas says. ‘All of the hardware features are great, and we particularly like the user-assignable buttons. It has allowed us to access all the features on Nuendo that much more quickly and easily, simplifying the process and reducing the time we spend on projects. Overall it has substantially added to our success as a studio.’
