Source Distribution has taken in official distribution of Townsend Labs Inc in the UK and Ireland.
Townsend Labs’ Sphere L22 Microphone Modeling System is a side-address, large-diaphragm condenser mic that claims ‘three-dimensional characteristics of the most sought-after microphones ever produced’.
Launched through an international crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo which raised more than US$100,000 in its first 24 hours, the system comprises a proprietary linear-response microphone integrated with a software plug-in package that is able to alter fundamental characteristics of recordings, and to do so after the recording has been completed. A user can adjust microphone type, polar pattern, and many other characterics after tracking, allowing flexibility that is impossible to achieve with any other microphone modelling system.
Sphere additionally allows for stereo recordings from one single microphone, and reduces the influence of room characteristics on the recording. Critically, Sphere incorporates models of some of the most desirable and costly studio microphones ever made, from dynamic to condenser and ribbon microphones.
‘The opportunity be involved with a genuinely unique and forward-thinking product like the Sphere is something that comes around very rarely,’ says Source Distribution Brand Manager Andy Bensley. ‘With one microphone, you get access to results which otherwise could only be achieved with a prohibitively expensive vintage microphone locker.
‘When you combine that with its ability to allow the user to adjust the microphone’s character, proximity effect and its rejection of extraneous noise even at the mix stage, you have a tool with wide-reaching benefits for musicians, post production houses and broadcasters.’
The Sphere L22 will available from selected dealers in the UK and Ireland in Q3 2017.
