Tascam has announced the CD-RW900SX CD Recorder/Player, the latest in the company’s line of CD recorders/players. Featuring a new high-quality slot-loading CD drive, the CD-RW900SX targets a wide range of applications, including studio, broadcast and commercial playback in restaurants, clubs and similar venues.
For recording and broadcast, the CD-RW900SX’s independent trim controls sit alongside analogue input gain controls for the left and right analog inputs, and trim control for the digital input.
The unit also has a variety of track division functions. These includes Automatic Track Division, whereby a track marker can be created based on the input level – effectively adding a new track when the input falls below a specified level, which can be defined within a range of -24 to -72dB. A rec-mute function can insert silence between tracks.
The Time Track Division function enables time-based track creation to be set every one-to-ten minutes for conference recording or similar cases when there is no gap between segments, such as when recording music. The CD-RW900SX also offers Manual Track Division, whereby a new track can be written manually by pressing the Record key while the unit is in record mode.
For playback it has auto-cue, auto-ready, pitch control, repeat, playback and power-on playback – particularly useful for restaurants and clubs, effectively enabling the CD-RW900SX to be cued and automatically start playback the moment the power is enabled. It should also be noted that the CD-RW900SX offers transport control via a P/S2 keyboard (sold separately).
The CD/CDRW drive in the CD-RW900SX provides a stable platter that is designed to minimise errors while writing to the disc. Track markers can be embedded without a gap for seamless continuous live recordings. Supported media includes CD, CD-R, CD-R-DA, CD-RW, CD-RW-DA for recording and CD-DA and Data-CD for playback. Shockproof memory prevents skipping due to vibration, while a RAM buffer stores audio data to ensure smooth playback, even if shock or vibration lasts for upwards of 4s.
The CD-unit carries a wealth of input connectivity. Unbalanced analogue and S/PDIF coaxial and optical connections are provided.
The CD-RW900SX includes a wireless ten-key remote control and is expected to become available Q3 2022.
