Avantone Pro has announced Planar the II headphones, targeting users including mix engineers, musicians, podcasters and live-streamers.
Where traditional moving-coil (dynamic) drivers rely on an asymmetric single-magnet design that derive their audio from a single point to create an spheroid wavefront, planar drivers – as found in Planar the II – operate using a matrix of neodymium magnets that push and pull from both sides of a thin, ultralight diaphragm across its entire surface area, creating a wavefront with little harmonic distortion and fast response time. Planar the II claims tight bass and ‘breathtaking’ soundstage, and 30kHz ceiling.
Planar the II draws on Avantone Pro’s experience in meeting the demands of music professionals. Planar the II employs a tuned open-back architecture, designed to eliminate the pressure build-up, acoustic resonance and frequency curve typical of closed-back headphones, further ensuring that any monitored music is represented as accurately as possible..
Planar the II is suited to any situation where music matters most by making the open-back reference-grade headphones more lightweight than the already surprisingly low-weight classic Planar design that preceded them. This is bolstered by ear pads that stay comfortable during long mix and listening sessions.
The Planar the II package comes with a high-grade, removable, 2m, noise-free 3.5mm cable that can be plugged into either side to suit workflow or handedness, as well as an eco-friendly shoulder bag with room for accessories and a pouch for the cable.
Planar the II is available in a colour choice of Black, Creme or Red with a MAP of US$399, and MSRP in the European Union of €532 including VAT.
