Lake People has announced the entry-level HPA G101 headphone amplifier.
Building on the company’s G series headphone amplifiers, which has been widely used by both audio professionals and audiophiles, the G101 is pitched as a more attractive entry level to the Lake People product world. The compact amp contains the essence of high-quality headphone amplification ‘Made in Germany’, underlining the particular strengths of Lake People – clever technology, outstanding sound, highest quality.
The Lake People HPA G101 is based on the G103, which itself can be traced back to the G3 from 1994. The technology is accordingly well-developed: minimal noise, high power and voltage at the outputs, and great attenuation factor. These robust amplifiers are practically indestructible and reliably play along in any professional environment, while the outstanding sound quality excites home audio enthusiasts. The solid aluminium housing protects the electronics from mechanical interference.
One special feature of the Lake People headphone amplifiers is their pre-gain circuitry. Different headphone types have different requirements regarding the amplification and interact differently with the circuit. Through pre-gain, the G101 can be tailored to suit the connected headphones. The amplification is modified by -6dB, 0dB, +6dB or +12dB before the volume control, so circuitry and potentiometer can work optimally. This also results in an ideal travel of the volume pot independent of the headphone’s sensitivity.
The Lake People G101 packs its qualities into a particularly compact format. The black anodized aluminium housing measures 108mm x 125mm x 41mm. On the front, the volume knob for the long-lasting Alps potentiometer is next to 6.3mm and a 3.5mm jack outputs, the power switch and an activity LED. On the rear, the G101 features the RCA inputs, USB-C power input and switches for Pre-Gain. Like all Lake People products, the G101 is built by hand in the company’s workshop in Germany.
