Klang:technologies has announced the release of the KOS 3.1 operating systems for its immersive 3D in-ear monitor mixing technologies.
One of the most significant advances is the inclusion of a Midi translator tool. This provides an MCU (Mackie Control Universal) protocol integration, which allows engineers to connect one or more Midi MCU-compatible fader controllers to the Klang:app for tactile mix control. Aimed at monitor engineers wanting to control musicians’ mixes from a hardware-based controller, this integration provides channel labellin, facilities for Mute and Solo buttons, and Bank Select and Snapshot control in addition to bi-directional fader control.
‘Many elite monitor engineers have found that binaural processing opens up new levels of quality in their mixes, but, until now, this required them to work with a touchscreen-based workflow,’ says Klang:technologies founder and Marketing Director, Pascal Dietrich. ‘Some engineers prefer to rely on haptic faders instead of a touch fader interface when it comes to critical mixing; they want to keep their eyes on their artists rather than look at a touchscreen. With Midi MCU integration, we can now offer that functionality – either out of an MCU-enabled mixing console, or with a dedicated fader controller. Additionally, musicians can also benefit and connect a haptic controller to their Klang:app.’
KOS 3.1 also supports daisy-chaining of Klang:fabrik and/or Klang:vier devices into a hive of units functioning as a larger and more powerful system. In this configuration, engineers can quickly move between various artists’ mixes within the cascade via the top mix bar, as well as create, save and recall snapshots and presets on all units in the setup simultaneously.
With KOS 3.1’s new master cue facilities, monitor engineers no longer need to sacrifice one mix for cueing into an artist’s mix, but can cue into the mixes of any unit in the cascade. This is accomplished by daisy chaining a cue output of a mixing console to the Klang cascade and then choosing to listen to the Klang cue or console cue. Also noteworthy, the newest OS version significantly increases the available channel count when working with EQs activated. And this software release is accompanied by a new Dante Firmware release for the new master cue routing, which now makes all Klang products Dante Domain Manager (DDM) ready.
