Alcons Audio has announced the CRMS-SRIW/9090 wide dispersion reference main/screen or compact surround loudspeaker system for use in immersive sound-for-picture applications.
While the CRMS-SRIW/9090 can also be used as full-range sound system in any installed audio application, where high-quality sound reproduction with inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting is required, its typical applications include sound system for auditoria, performing arts theatres, houses of worship, screening rooms, postproduction facilities and dubbing stages and quality-conscious cinemas.

Alcons Audio CRMS-SRIW/9090 The CRMS-SRIW/9090 is part of the CRMS system series – using identical MHF components ensures voicing matching and tonal balance within the product family. Featuring the Alcons pro-ribbon transducer technology, the CRMS-SRIW/9090 system combines clarity and intelligibility with an unusually high dynamic range. The two-way passive-filtered CRMS-SRIW system consists of the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for HF and a vented 8-inch mid-bass for LF reproduction; the HF section has a 80W peak power input, enabling a 1:15 dynamic range with up to 90 per cent lower distortion from 1kHz to beyond 20kHz.

The CRMS-SRIW/9090 features a 90° and 90° dispersion up to the highest frequencies. This offers a very wide and coherent direct-field coverage throughout the listening space, it also guarantees a consistent reflected diffuse-field response. The system’s low frequency section is tuned for a usable frequency response down to 58Hz, enabling a smooth transition with additional LFE subwoofer systems.

The Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the CRMS-SRIW and the ALC amplified loudspeaker controller, the dedicated drive-engine; together with VHIR™ processing, SIS significantly increases response accuracy, deleting artefacts so common in traditional systems.

‘On the heels of the development of the CRMSC in-wall with less than 4-inch/100mm depth, larger applications demanded a higher output, but at the same time, also required a wide projection for near-field applications and for overhead or height-layer immersive sound systems,’ says Alcons R&D Head, Philip de Haan. ‘So the design brief was: more output, wider dispersion and a minimal mounting depth.

‘Further implementation of our new patent-pending waveguide technology into the larger RBN 4-inch driver platform lead to a possible cabinet depth of 150mm/5.9-inch, while delivering a constant, wide projection of a true 90° x 90° up to 20kHz.

‘By using the same transducer components throughout our different product lines, albeit with different form factors, this system feels equally at home in home-theatres and studios, as well as in performing arts theatres or houses of worship to name a few. And as a result of our tight manufacturing standards, all our systems are well within matched pair tolerance, for a reference-grade response, regardless of the selected system.’

Further to the shallow depth, the CRMS-SRIW also features an optional cloth grille and ACO Architect Color Option in more than 180 RAL colour schemes for inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting.
