Alcons Audio has released the CRMSC-SRHOR surround, a two-way, passive-filtered full-range loudspeaker for immersive cinema surround sound formats.
Featuring the multiple-patented Alcons pro-ribbon driver technology, the CRMSC-SRHOR monitor combines an clarity and intelligibility with an unusually high dynamic range. The system consists of one RBN202 pro-ribbon driver for HF and a vented 6.5-inch mid-bass for LF reproduction. The CRMSC-SRHOR HF section has an 400W peak power input, enabling a 1:16 dynamic range with up to 90 per cent lower distortion from 1kHz to beyond 20kHz.
The patented 90° horizontal dispersion of the RBN202 offers a stable coverage to a larger number of seats in the auditorium; Due to the ‘compression-less’ principle of the pro-ribbon transducer, the system has a linear response at any SPL.
The CRMSC-SRHOR is designed as matching surround system for the CRMSC Cinema Reference Monitoring system, or in any small to medium sized immersive surround system: Using identical MHF components in a horizontal arrangement, a perfect voicing matching between screen and surround system is realized, resulting in an exceptionally wide and uniform sound stage throughout the entire listening area. The CRMSC-SRHOR can also be used as main screen system in smaller applications, with low-frequency support.
The 15° slanted enclosure baffle together with the optional ACO colour option, provides easy, low-profile wall or ceiling mounting and is also suited to height channels in low-ceiling rooms. These systems are available in any colour, through Alcons’ ACO; With Architect Colour Option, the entire colour spectrum is covered through 180-plus colours from the European RAL colour scheme, allowing Alcons systems to blend perfectly into the background against any type of décor.
For full system performance, the CRMSC-SRHOR needs to be driven by an ALC Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controller, delivering maximum sound quality with increased headroom and utmost operation reliability. The Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the CRMSC-SRHOR and ALC Sentinel, significantly increasing response accuracy, regardless of cable length and system impedance, with tight and accurate mid and bass response as result.
Typical applications include surround sound system for small premium commercial cinemas, high-end screening rooms, quality-conscious mix and postproduction facilities and dubbing stages. As a result of Alcons’ manufacturing standards, all system cabinets are within ‘matched pair’ tolerance.
