US company Ex Machina Soundworks has announced a new flagship loudspeaker, Arcturus, stating that ‘it is not just our largest and loudest monitor, but also our most technologically advanced offering to date’.
Designed primarily for soffit-installed main applications, Arcturus uses the same coaxial and axisymmetric technology from the company’s Quasar model, adding a unique integration of twin-ring radial neodymium SEAS subwoofers, which has produced some of the lowest distortion and most linear output measured in Ex Machina Soundworks’ products.
The Arcturus model also uses the same electronics as the Quasar model, with an added 2U-high remote AMP/DSP package that requires top and bottom venting. The sealed Valchromat cabinets are stiff, dense, and well-damped. The rigid 38mm laminated front baffle handles the output of the twin 260mm LF drivers, with radiused insets to eliminate potential lip shadow from the tallboy surrounds.
