The company’s 30th anniversary has prompted the release of a limited run of Manley Laboratories’ classic Reference Cardioid tube microphone.
Dubbed the Reference Cardioid XXX Anniversary Limited Edition, the mic is presented in a custom pearlescent white finish with red accents. According to the company, the Reference Cardioid is ‘the world’s most popular modern tube vocal mic’, and was used on Don LaFontaine’s famous movie trailers to classic singers like Etta James, to releases from Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Panic! at the Disco and Avril Lavigne since its introduction in 1990.
This XXX Anniversary Edition Reference Cardioid microphone production will feature the Manley Power Switch-Mode Power Supply, currently used in the company’s Reference Silver Microphone. Based on the same technologies found in the Manley Core, Force, ELOP+ and Nu Mu processors, this new PSU is ‘empirically quieter’ than the microphone’s original linear PSU. The new power supply is universal, allowing it to work anywhere in the world without a voltage changeover switch or power transformer rewiring. According to Manley Labs, ‘Sonically, we hear faster highs, generally more clarity, and blacker blacks in the silence.’
The Reference Cardioid XXX microphone is limited to 100 pieces worldwide and begins shipping end of October. It will be available through select Manley resellers at an MSRP of US$2,999.
