The Røde Stereo VideoMic X (SVMX) is the flagship of the Australian company’s on-camera recording mics, offering broadcast-quality audio via an acoustically matched pair of true-condenser capsules.
Housed in a lightweight aluminium body, SVMX has high resistance to RF interference and can be connected using either a 3.5mm stereo output or a balanced signal via mini XLR. The capsule and shoe mounts are precision machined to ensure the tightest possible tolerances, minimising any acoustic resonance.
SVMX’s externally-biased, condenser capsules are independently housed in integrated Rycote Lyre multi-axis shock mounts to provide its isolation from bumps and vibration. Protection from wind noise, unwanted vibration and impacts is also ensured via an outer dome structure that provides physical protection for the sensitive capsules.
Additional features include level adjustment controls (-10dB or +20dB), a high-pass filter (0/75/150Hz) and a high-frequency boost (+6dB @ 5kHz). The DSLR critical +20dB boost will also combat any high frequency loss experienced with the use of wind protection.
‘The Stereo VideoMic X not only raises the bar for on-camera audio, it shatters it,’ says Røde Global Marketing & Sales Manager, Damien Wilson. ‘When we started the ‘X’ project we had the objective of creating the best of the best and I believe we’ve done just that.’
Stereo VideoMic X will be shipping globally in October 2014.
