Building on the Model 12, Model 16 and Model 24, the Tascam Model 2400 is the company’s new flagship live recorder and mixing console, combining an integrated 24-track digital recorder, 22-channel mixer, and 24 Input/22 Output USB audio interface.
Suited to both home and professional music recording, the Model 2400 also meets the requirements of live recording and rehearsals, and sound reinforcement.
The Model 2400 is a self-contained workstation in a compact form factor. Its onboard 24-track digital recorder can capture the recordings and mixdowns to SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards without the need for a PC or other DAW. With its integrated USB audio interface, the Model 2400 supports operation with DAW control for extensive editing and production. It also uses a bus configuration that is characteristic of an analogue mixer, and is compatible with and expandable with other studio peripherals via its Midi interface.
The mixer offers 16 Tascam XLR mic preamplifiers, 12 channel inserts, five aux sends, and four stereo submixes. This workstation’s Midi In/Out ports include support for Midi Time Code (MTC) and Midi Clock/Song Position Pointer (SPP) Out, making it easy to synchronise, for example, an entire Midi keyboard/sampler set-up. There is also a Click Out jack with Tap Tempo.
The mixer includes DAW transport control and Record Ready functionality via HUI/MCU (Human User Interface/Mackie Control Universal) protocol emulation. It also offers expanded Insert capability on Channels 1-12 for the integration of EQ or compression, and there is digital EQ and compression on the main bus.
Additional features include a Master EQ/Comp with four-band parametric EQ, a stereo bus compressor, Midi I/O Sync, plus transport and record control for DAWs. Audio from Bluetooth enabled devices can be routed to Channels 21/22 or mains.
With the MeterBridge app (that can be downloaded for free from the Tascam website), users can take advantage of a digital meter bridge across all 24 channels by connecting the Model 2400 via USB to a PC or Mac, and can take a step further by porting visual information, such as the meter bridge from computer to a dedicated monitor.
‘The Model 2400 takes the qualities and functionality of the Model 12, Model 16 and Model 24 and elevates those capabilities to an entirely new level,’ says Tascam Product Specialist, Sean Daily. ‘The Model 2400’s mixer has undergone numerous enhancements that not only make the system a more capable mixing environment, it also makes the system that much more adept at interfacing with a variety of external production equipment.
‘The integrated digital recorder makes it a robust stand-alone recording environment while still having the ability to easily interface with a DAW. Combined with its Midi and USB functionality, the Model 2400 makes a terrific choice for those larger scale sound reinforcement projects in addition to true professional studio applications.’
