Audacity – reckoned by its author, Muse Group – as the world’s most popular free recording and audio editing tool, has received a significant update to version 3.6 in order to support changes to the Muse Hub gateway to Muse sounds and software.
In addition to a visual refresh, the free desktop app includes a new master channel for adding production and effects to tracks. New real-time compressor and limiter effects for mastering dynamic range are also available.
Paired with the selection of loops and plug-ins available via Muse Hub, Audacity is a compelling tool for beginner songwriters or podcasters who want to explore audio production. Further major improvements and features are on the way in the forthcoming version 4 Audacity update. The desktop app will remain free and open source for everyone.
Muse Hub has partnered with Solid State Logic, Baby Audio, ACE Studio, WavTool and others to transform Muse Hub into an exclusive audio store and creative launchpad. The new Muse Hub features include standalone apps, spanning accessible Muse Group favorites to AI music composition and podcast production tools. These include apps that transform Midi into vocal parts or split recorded samples into Midi stems. Compatible with Audacity or any third-party DAW, Muse Hub plug-ins range from virtual instruments to easily-tweaked effects, while Muse Sounds offer playback for sounds from Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, Vienna Symphonic Library and others.Royalty-free and ready-made samples, sound effects, tracks and kits are available to drop directly into productions.
‘These changes to Audacity and Muse Hub mark the latest in the widespread expansion of Muse Group’s offering to music makers worldwide, including the addition of AI-powered learning tools to the Ultimate Guitar app,’ the Muse Group says. ‘Following the acquisition of leading music education publisher Hal Leonard last year, thousands of A-list sheet music titles have been released to subscribers on MuseScore.com. MuseClass, a music content and assignment platform for US teachers, was released by Hal Leonard and Muse Group earlier in the year.’
