Legendary British electronics engineer, Roger Mayer, has announced the RM58 dual channel FET limiter available worldwide through KMR Audio.
The Roger Mayer RM58 is a dual channel FET limiter with 456HD technology, based on the original limiter design used in iconic studios around the world including Olympic Studios, Electric Lady and Record Plant NY. The original RM 58 was used in recording studios at the mastering stage before cutting vinyl. This meticulous re-issue keeps all the audiophile quality of the original vintage processor, while being adapted and optimised for modern recording workflows.
It boasts a unique FET gain reduction circuit working in a feed-forward mode that controls both positive and negative peaks. This results in a stable stereo centre image even at very high gain reduction. It uses a dynamic gain reduction method, which means that no ratio control is required because, with dynamic gain reduction constantly working in real time, the limiting ratio is always changing, producing a natural and musical result.
With a discrete class-A low-noise signal path and an uncompromising approach to design, the RM58 provides transparency and extended frequency response up to 100kHz. Class-A output is also employed, providing ultra-low output impedance, ideal for use with professional equipment and modern recording systems.
In addition to the limiter, the RM58 incorporates Roger Mayer’s 456HD technology to add the harmonic enhancement of a Studer A80 tape machine with Ampex 456 tape formulation. Trim controls are provided for DAW level matching.

Mayer established himself in the recording industry while working for guitar luminaries including Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix in the 1960s. His Octavia pedal was famously used on Hendrix’ Purple Haze solo while recording at Olympic Studios.
