Promising ‘huge-sounding tube saturation which makes any vocal or instrument jump out of the speakers,’ Waves Audio has announced the BB Tubes plug-in, the second in its new Magma line.

Centred on two controls marked Beauty and Beast, BB Tubes covers both delicate harmonic saturation to make a sound blossom before it breaks up under the Beauty parameter, and immediate in-your-face energy, attitude and aggression all the way to crunch distortion with Beast. There’s also an A/B switch to select between two different ‘tube’ types.

The two saturation types can also be blended, as the Beauty stage cascades into Beast, allowing audio to be tuned and tweaked for an wide range of saturation sounds.

In addition to the Beauty and Beat parameters BB Tubes offer further control through Sensitivity, which determines the dive of the tube engine; Bass Relief, which attenuates the amount of bass fed into the tube engine; and Transformer, which adds harmonic complexity.

The Type A/B control sets the tube type for the Beast section (each type offering a different harmonic palette), while Tone Pre/Post offers a shelving boost at 10kHz either in front of the tube engine or after. The Mix control determines the wet/dry signal balance.
