Waves Audio is growing its custom-shop Magma series with the release of the Waves Magma Springs plug-in, the third in the lin-up.
Where some reverbs melt into a mix and others have their own a distinctive character, spring reverb does both. Initially devised in the 1930s, Waves Magma Springs offers a collection of seven of the most popular types of spring reverb. These include 50’s revives the birth of rock n roll, tapping into the melancholic sound of old Memphis Blues records while Twang references the unmistakable Tele-into-Vox sound. This spring reverb style is also magical for electronic music, especially on analogue synths and looping arpeggios.
Motor City has size and weight and epitomises ‘old-school’ soul and R&B sound and Classic gives a warm and versatile spring reverb sound that can bed almost any element into a mix, at times sounding like a smooth plate reverb.
California captures the sunny sounds of classic recordings from the 1960s and 70s, its brighter tone making vocals float above a mix, and Heavy suggests a Les Paul with a blown-out Fender cabinet in a large hangar. Finally, Dark Space is based on a well-loved hardware spring reverb that is an essential ingredient of the sound of Dub.
