Harrison Audio has ventured into the 500 series format with the 32Cpre+ microphone preamplifier, MR3eq parametric equaliser and the Comp compressor. Each takes key elements from Harrison’s high-performance studio consoles from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s and presents them in 500 Series format.

The 32Cpre+ takes the high-performance, transformer-coupled microphone preamp from Harrison’s new 32Classic studio console and combines it with Harrison LP/HP filters in a single 500 series unit. Inspired by the Harrison 3232, the 32Classic mixing console and preamp offers the tone that helped create albums including Thriller, In Through the Out Door and The Nightfly.

Harrison Audio 32Cpre+/MR3eq/CompSonically, the 32Cpre+ has full low-end, an open mid-range and smooth, highs from its Jensen JT-MB-CPCA transformer-coupled design. It offers +20dB to +70dB of gain and is capable of accommodating a wide range of microphone types, including ribbons. The front panel features 180° Phase, 48V, -20dB pad, HiZ impedance switches, and a combo XLR input with a quarter-inch jack connector.

The MR3eq is an analogue EQ crafted from a filter design originally developed for the Harrison MR3 studio console. It is a three-band parametric equaliser featuring low- and high-frequency 6dB/octave Shelf bands, which can be switched to a second order bell response with Harrison’s proportional Q. The mid-band offers a continuously variable Q, while a separate high pass filter section includes a distinctive 3dB resonant peak.

The Comp 500 Series module is based on a classic ‘feed-forward’ design, using a That Corporation 2180 VCA chip. The compressor’s attack is programme-dependent, and continuously adapts to the input signal, while the release time is continuously variable. These parameters mean that the module can function both as a transparent leveller, a highly saturated vibe compressor or anything in between.

The 32Cpre+ is priced at US$699/£599, MR3eq at US$399/£319.00 and Comp at US$399/£319.00.
