After the initial announcement of Vocoflex earlier in the year, Japanese company Dreamtonics has released its real-time voice creation and transformation plug-in along with three bundles combining Vocoflex with the company’s flagship vocal synthesiser, Synthesizer V Studio Pro, and a variety of realistic-sounding voice databases.
Vocoflex processing enables changing of voice gender, and the blending of male and female voices together to create backing vocals and ‘other-worldly voices’, for writing vocal ideas and demos, experimenting with voice extrapolation. The software offer access to unlimited voice types and can be inserted as a plug-in into a vocal effects chain.
‘Followed by a rigorous beta-testing phase, we would like to say thank you to all beta-testers that took part,’ the company says. ‘We have collected everyone’s feedback and have since improved Vocoflex’s sound quality, rendering speed and stability, reduced the latency from 45ms to 35ms, added Midi support and waypoint features. Additionally, the final release of Vocoflex includes 40 licenced voice presets for those who may not have a sufficient library of license-cleared voice samples. These presets provide a convenient starting point for experimentation and creative exploration.’
In addition to transforming recorded vocals, Vocoflex also works with the plug-in version of Synthesizer V Studio Pro, Dreamtonics’ vocal synthesis software that generates singing voice for any melody and lyrics. By placing Vocoflex in the effect chain following Synthesizer V Studio, users can significantly expand the available range of voice identities from a limited set of voice databases installed, enabling the creation of diverse vocal arrangements.
While Vocoflex is able to completely replace and transform the timbre of a Synthesizer V voice database, traits of the voice database such as the pitch, pronunciation and dynamics remain. By combining Vocoflex with different voice databases in the bundle, it becomes possible to design a wide range of variations of vocal expressions.
‘While Vocoflex is designed for creative applications, Dreamtonics understands the potential risks and ethical implications of its use beyond these intended purposes,’ the company says. ‘As a precautionary measure, the initial offering of Vocoflex requires ID verification through Dreamtonics’ KYC-service partner.
‘To further prevent unauthorized usage, Vocoflex incorporates an audio watermarking feature, enabling Dreamtonics to identify the creator of altered voices and discourage users from importing voice samples without the singer/voice actor’s consent – a practice prohibited by the usage terms. Dreamtonics adheres to ethical AI usage, never blurring any moral and legal boundaries, and encourages users to use Vocoflex to expand their creative possibilities with the artist’s, actor’s, vocalist’s or user’s full knowledge and transparency.’
