The Radial Engineering PreComp is a 500-Series rack format preamplifier and compressor.
Its high-performance preamp is equipped with Radial’s Accustate gain control that simultaneously sets the output and sensitivity to maximise signal-to-noise at all levels. The compressor offers adjustable threshold, compression ratio and make-up gain control that automatically switches soft-knee to hard-knee as compression increases.
Connected to a 500 series power rack, I/O connections automatically route to the XLRs for balanced operation. When used with a Radial Workhorse rack, connectivity extends to quarter-inch TRS connectors and D-Subs, with an Omniport for direct patching to the preamp or the compressor separately.
Other features include 180° polarity reverse for phase matching two microphones, a high-pass filter, 48V phantom power for condenser mics and an In/Out switch.
‘The PreComp addresses the need to combine both a preamp with a compressor in a compact, single space module,’ says Radial Senior Engineer, Dan Fraser. ‘This provides broadcasters and postproduction engineers with a quick and easy solution for voice and instrument processing. It is also a Godsend for live recording engineers as it enables them to maximise system density without compromising on performance or control.’
The PreComp is set to ship in May 2013 and will retail for US$400.
