Serpent Audio has released the Splice MkII compressor – actually four compressors in one.

Through the use of a configurable audio path circuit that recreates the input and output modes of both Blue Stripe and Blackface revisions of the 1176, designer Mike Pildis has created a unique sounding and functioning tracking compressor. It also features a Slam mode for ‘all in’ compression.

Serpent Audio Splice MkII

Although it is a very good 1176 clone, Splice MkII boasts several features that set it apart from others. First is the inclusion of external ‘send and return’ insert points with front-panel switch and a ‘mix blend’ control, which allows parallel compression and active side-chain filters. Additionally, a switchable 600R output load is provided allowing the Splice to interface with both modern and vintage equipment.

Key features:
· Discrete transistor audio path; class-A transistor output.
· Transformer balanced input and output, stereo linkable from front panel.
· External send and return with front panel switch.
· All Buttons In/Slam Mode front panel switch.
· True Bypass (relay controlled) with front panel switch.
· Integrated Mix/Blend Control with switchable bypassing for in-the-box parallel processing.
· Integrated active sidechain filters.
· Switchable 600R output loading.
· 45dB gain (with no limiting).
· Attack Time: 20-800µs.
· Release Time: 50ms to 1.1s.
· Compression Ratios 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1 and Soft Bypass.
· True vu meter with meter buffer circuitry.
· Integrated linear PSU /230V compatible.

The is available in the UK from KMR Audio.
