Serpent Audio has released the Splice MkII compressor – actually four compressors in one.
Through the use of a configurable audio path circuit that recreates the input and output modes of both Blue Stripe and Blackface revisions of the 1176, designer Mike Pildis has created a unique sounding and functioning tracking compressor. It also features a Slam mode for ‘all in’ compression.
Although it is a very good 1176 clone, Splice MkII boasts several features that set it apart from others. First is the inclusion of external ‘send and return’ insert points with front-panel switch and a ‘mix blend’ control, which allows parallel compression and active side-chain filters. Additionally, a switchable 600R output load is provided allowing the Splice to interface with both modern and vintage equipment.
The is available in the UK from KMR Audio.
