The process of bringing the Rzeszów Cellars tourist attraction in Poland into the modern era has its roots in work that began in the 1970s. The work on the underground venue presented numerous challenges, concerning lighting, space and acoustics. Part of their resolution lay with an RCF Audio loudspeaker installation and Ashly Audio amplifier system.

The Rzeszów Cellars follow a 396m-long route beneath the homes in the Polish town’s central market square. This unique space includes 25 basements and 15 corridors up to 10m below ground. Each room contains a different piece of the city’s history, from relics of medieval wars, signs of fire, remains of iron hinges and hidden passages.

The Rzeszów CellarsThe many different rooms in the cellars are designed to serve different purposes, requiring various audio installations. In some rooms, music transports guests back in time while, in others, video helps to tell the story.

‘A high level of sound control is necessary for an underground tourist installation such as the Rzeszów Cellars, since sound can easily travel through the venue,’ says Noel Larson, EVP of Sales & Marketing at Ashly Audio. ‘The ability to maintain complete control over audio makes a drastic difference in the quality of a guest’s experience.’

The Tommex Company devised the sound systems, which include RCF Business Music line loudspeakers,wall-mounted WMF 33EN, MQ 50i, MQ 60H, MR 40 and MQ 80P loudspeakers, MF 33EN and PL 8X ceiling loudspeakers. In key spaces, which aresupported by RCF MQ 90S subwoofers in key areas. The Tommex team specified Ashly Audio amplifiers to fit the site’s specific needs.

Ashly ne8250 and FA 125.4 amplifiers supplying up to four channels of power from a small, compact and cost-effective package. The ne8250 offers extreme ease of use, set-up and control using standard 10/100 Ethernet and Protea Network Enabled Software. The FA Series delivers from 250-500W in a half-rack package, and 1kW in 1U, and is suited to tight spaces like the Rzeszów Cellars.

The underground cinema features 5.1 sound based on RCF Compact M10 loudspeakers and S 12 subwoofers, driven by four Ashly KLR-3200 amplifiers.

‘The installation of Ashly Audio amplifiers assures us that Rzeszów Cellars guests will have no trouble hearing any exhibit, announcement or song,’ says Tommex’s Tomasz Lulkiewicz, who was responsible for this project. ‘With this newfound audio clarity, guests will enjoy the Rzeszów Cellars with ease, for an unforgettable historic experience.’

‘Ashly Audio is thrilled at the chance to assist in the preservation of this unique historical site,’ Larson adds. ‘Our technology was the right choice for this installation, as it can seamlessly blend into any space without being architecturally intruding, while at the same time providing the power needed to match the size of the space.’
