Since construction in 1989, Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been hailed as one of the best US stadiums in baseball. This popularity has been credited with prompting the development of other neo-traditional ballparks in the early 1990s. Bur while the stadium has driven innovation across Major League Baseball, its sound system has not received the same praise.
‘The sound system at Camden Yards was installed back in 2009,’ says Precision Audio owner, Scott Carneval. ‘As the system aged, they began to have multiple issues with speakers out, amplifiers dying, and it’s become a huge problem over the past few years.’
The sound and control systems for the current sound system had become ‘fairly antiquated’, concedes President of Baseball Operations, Catie Griggs.
The sound system, as well as a myriad of other changes, is part of a significant upgrade at Camden Yards after the approval of US$600m by the Maryland Stadium Authority in public bonds set aside to renovate the stadium and the surrounding area.
The first renovations occurred during the break between the 2024 and 2025 seasons inclusive of renovations near the stadium’s left field wall, a viewing area for kids and as part of the Bird Bath splash zone, an area for the team’s chief hydration officer Mr Splash to spray fans – and an upgraded audio system.
For the 2025 season, Precision Audio installed an all Danley system comprising two J8-94 loudspeakers, two J7-95 loudspeakers, two OS62 loudspeakers and four BC415 subwoofers for the main area of the stadium. The remainder of the stadium has seen two SH110 loudspeakers installed to cover the picnic area and OS80 loudspeakers covering the gates and area behind the scoreboard. The existing down fills beneath the scoreboard and under the balcony on the first level were incorporated into the new system. Any loudspeakers that were not working were replaced with Danley Go2 and SH95 where necessary. The entire system is now powered by five DNA 20K4 and five 20K8C Danley amplifiers.
‘Danley Sound Labs is known for its ability to deliver audio clarity and quality in arenas and stadiums around the world,’ says Danley Sound Labs Director of Sales & Business Development, Skip Welch. ‘Scott Carneval and Precision Audio have done a tremendous job working to provide the right solution for this season.’
‘With any audio system for an outdoor facility, over time components break down,’ Carneval says. ‘The issues at Camden Yards were just driven by time. Speakers and amplifiers had failed, and it is time for new audio gear to ensure the fan experience is as amazing as possible. Danley provides a great solution for outdoor stadiums for several reasons – the best audio and vocal intelligibility in the industry, amazing subwoofers and the extreme weather product line is practically impervious to weather.’
‘The new system provides a great deal of new energy in the park,’ Welch adds. ‘We love this sort of feedback as Danley seeks to be synonymous with the ultimate fan experience.’
